I don t understand English articles unless I translate them into Chinese first. Please tell me how to abandon our Chinese conception during reading English books.
      如果不先把英语文章翻译成中文，我就看不懂。请告诉我在英语书时如何抛掉中文的概念??
　　What you are saying, I think, is that you are not reading in English. What I mean by this is that your thought processes are not confined to English during the act of reading. You are constantly trying to transfer the meaning to Chinese. Why are you doing this? Probably because you re not confident of your ability to read and think in English. And why aren t you confident? Probably because you are reading texts which are too advanced for your present level. You can only read comfortably in a foreign language, without having to translate into your mother tongue, if the texts you are reading are at least one level below your present classroom level. This means you should always be reading books which look and are fairly easy for you. If you do this, you will read and think in English without having to translate into Chinese and you will build up your confidence to a point where you can proceed to a higher level. Publishers catalogues provide lists of readers at different levels. Choose a level which at first seems easy for you and develop your reading skills.
　　我想，你所说的问题是，你读英语时不是用英语思维。我这么说的意思是在过程中你不是完全用英语思维。你不断地在把意思转化成中文。你为什么会这样做呢?可能是因为你对自己用和思维的能力没有信心。为什么你不自信呢?可能是因为你所读的文章超出了你目前的水平。如果你要自在地阅读外语，且无须翻译成自己的母语，那么你所读的文章的水平应该比你目前的课程水平至少低一级。这就是说，你应该读那些对你来说比较容易的书。如果你照这样做，你就可以用和思考，不用翻译成中文，而且可以建立起自信，从而提高自己的水平。出版社的阅读书目是根据难度排列的。开始先选一个你觉得容易的级别，来提高自己的阅读技巧。
