21. Would you please ____ the paper for me and see if there are any obvious mistakes?
A. look around
B. look into
C. look up
D. look through
22. During the war there was a serious lack of food. It was not unusual that even the wealthy families had to ____ bread for days.
A. eat up
B. give away
C. do without
D. deal with
23. The loss has not yet been _____ accurately, but it is believed to be well beyond a hundred million dollars.
A. calculated
B. considered
C. completed
D. controlled
答案:A
24. Some parents are just too protective. They want to _____ their kids from every kind of danger, real or imagined.
A. spot
B. dismiss
C. shelter
D. distinguish
25. Hiking by oneself can be fun and good for health. It may also be good for _____ building.
A. respect
B. friendship
C. reputation
D. character
“be good for”“对… 而不可能是树立我们的respect(敬意), friendship(友谊)和reputation(名声)。
26. In our class, when the bell rang and the teacher closed his book, it was a ____ for everyone to stand up.
A. signal
B. chance
C. mark
D. measure
答案:A
27. As there is less and less coal and oil, scientists are exploring new ways of making use of ___ energy, such as sunlight, wind and water for power and fuel.
A. primary
B. alternative
C. instant
D. unique
自然应该选择B.alternative “可代替的,可选择的”。
28. The questionnaire takes ____ten to fifteen minutes to complete and can be used along with the assessment interview.
A. mainly
B. punctually
C. approximately
D. precisely
29. You’d sound a lot more polite if you make a request___ a question.
A. in search of
B. in the form of
C. in need of
D. in the direction of
in the direction of 表示“朝着……
30. His efforts to raise money for his program were ____ because no one showed any intention to take a cent out of their pockets.
A. in place
B. in sight
C. in effect
D. in vain.

There was a very special teacher who made a far-reaching difference in my life. Fall, 1959, the first day of class at Bethesda Chevy Chase High School was about to begin. “Who”, I asked a senior, “is Mrs. McNamara, my assigned 10th grade English teacher?” He just __31__ and mumbled something about my being in deep __32__. Soon, I understood what he meant. It wasn’t just that Mrs. McNamara had a pattern of __33__ that she repeated again and again. We would have a literature reading assignment for __34__. The next day, when we came to class, there would be two or three topics on the blackboard __35__ to the homework reading. We were __36__ to write an in-class essay about one of the topics. The following day, she would __37__ the corrected and graded essays and each person would be called __38__ to stand in front of the class and to __39__ his/her essay. The class was expected to criticize (评论) that essay, __40__ the grade of everyone in class would be reduced.
The first time that I __41__ her read-write-criticize method, I had not __42__ to do the homework and had written something without knowing what it meant. __43__ the extreme embarrassment I suffered, standing before my classmates, __44__ myself. No one laughed at me; no one would be __45__ enough, or foolish enough, to do that in Mrs. McNamara’s class. The humiliation came from __46__ and along with it came a strong __47__ not to let it happen again.
Mrs. McNamara kept all of our written work in folders; it was easy to see the __48__ in writing that had occurred. What was not so easy to see was the inner transformation that had taken place, at least for me. What Mrs. McNamara __49__ me to do was to see myself as others see me and, having done that, I could improve me. And I __50__. Thank you, Mrs. McNamara.
31. A. nodded B. laughed C. apologized D. shouted
32. A. trouble B. sorrow C. danger D. anger
33. A. behaviour B. evaluation C. activity D. thought
34. A. review B. performance C. practice D. homework
35. A. added B. related C. contributed D. compared
36. A. expected B. persuaded C. allowed D. advised
37. A. collect B. return C. send D. receive
38. A. on purpose B. at first C. by chance D. in turn
39. A. talk through B. hand over C. read out D. show off
40. A. so B. and C. but D. or
41. A. tried B. adopted C. examined D. experienced

46. A. above B. within C. behind D. below
47. A. tendency B. preference C. determination D. sense
48. A. improvements B. pains C. difficulties D. advantages
49. A. trusted B. invited C. forced D. permitted
50. A. did B. could C. had D. would
31. B。 当I(也就是本文的作者)向一个高年级的学长(即I asked a senior)打听Mrs. 一个低年级的同学向学长打听他们新学期的老师,学长没必要nodded(点头),apologized(道歉),或者shouted(喊叫),因此只能选择B. laughed。
The next day, when we came to class,也就是说Mrs.
本题的考察的是be related to …(与……相关),类似的表达,如be associated with …, be connected with, … be bound up with …
36. A。老师布置学生write an in-class essay,不需要去persuaded(说服),也无需allowed(允许)或者advised(建议),这里考察sb. be expected to do sth. 新概念二册第7课除了会涉及到这一结构,还会讲解as is/ was expected, out of expectation等相关结构。 The class was expected to criticize that essay,也不难从中得到提示。
37. B。 McNamara。
in turn表示“轮流的”,在新概念二册第15课里,我们会学习到in turn,It’s your turn to do sth.,以及do sth. by turn = take turns to do sth.
42.C。这两题的解题线索是had written something without knowing what it meant. 因此,41题谈不上tried(努力尝试),也谈不上adopted(采用),只能算是敷衍完成作业,仅仅是experienced(体验)了一把。 而42题的not/ never bother to do sth.(懒得费力气去做某事)结构是新概念三册第34课的重点结构。
43. D。 Imagine their dismay when they found a beautifully-cooked wallet and notes turned to ashes.
44. B。 新概念二册第65课还会链接一个相似的表达make a clown of oneself。
45. A。 No one laughed at me。一个人不需要careless(粗心的),或者proud(骄傲的),或者selfish(自私的),从而才不去嘲笑别人。
No one laughed at me。也就是说humiliation(羞辱)不是来自别人,而是来自作者自己。因此选择B,from within(来自内心)。新概念四册第39课有同样的表达:… no judgment from outside which can replace the judgment from within …(任何局外人的判断也比不上他内心的正确判断)。
47. C。随着作者感到了羞辱,便下定决心not to let it happen again,这个句型determine to do sth. = be determined to do sth. = have a strong determination to do sth.
(What was not so easy to see was the inner transformation)。
50. A。 And I did improve myself。 You certainly did give me a surprise!(你确实使我感到意外!)
